The Straw Obsession

"Why does Tristan only want to drink from a straw?" is a question I keep asking myself. He won't use a sippy cup unless it is one of the "straw sippy cups", which he has multiple of. If I give him a sippy cup with a spout he will either hand it right back to me or put it in his mouth for a minute, only to realize the cup has a spout, and then hand it back to me. This makes absolutely no sense to me because the liquid is so much easier to get out of the spout cups than the straw ones (trust me, I tested it out).

The obession with the straw has got to the point that I can't use a straw in anything I drink or he wants it, and throws a fit if I don't let him drink from my cup with the straw. So, normally I just don't use a straw in my drink, but a week or so ago we went out to eat and I ordered a strawberry banana smoothie, which a straw is pretty much required to be able to drink. Needless to say, I let Tristan have a drink and I think he drank my whole smoothie! When his mac 'n cheese came out we had to hide the glass (and straw) on the seat next to Victor just to get him to eat.

Yummy smoothie! Give me more!

Now, whenever I get a drink that requires a straw, I just put his drink in a cup with a straw too!

That's right, don't mess with me and my straw!

Serious cup and straw business

And the mimicking begins!

I have already posted a few times about some of Tristan's favorite places to play in the house (i.e. kitchen cabinets, the fridge, pantry, dishwasher, etc.), but he found a new one the other day. Now, this one I am pretty impressed with because it requires a little more skill than just getting a door open and removing/destroying all the contents on the other side of the door.

We were in the kitchen, I heard a noise and this is what I turned around to:

And here he is coming towards me after the water squirted on him:

I am guessing he has seen my Mom and Dad fill their cups up at their house because we hardly ever use our water/ice dispenser...he is definitely at that stage where he mimics whatever he sees! Luckily, there is an easy solution to keep him dry and from ice being all over the floor...just push the "lock" button on the dispenser. I wish all things could be so easy, like keeping him out of that pesky dishwasher!!!!!!!

Poll Results

Parker's due date poll has been closed for about a week now and it seems that the majority of you guys are guessing he will be born somewhere between May 1st and 4th. Check out the final results below:

Before April 27: 7%
April 27 -30: 21%
May 1 - 4: 50%
May 5 - 8: 21%

I guess we will just have to wait and see...only about 5 weeks left to go!

Lots and lots of Easter pictures

So, you should know by now to expect tons of pictures for any holiday or celebration, and I definitely did not disappoint! We went to my Mom and Dad's house for the egg hunt and were joined by Victor's Mom and my sister and her two kids, Richie and Wyatt.

Enjoy the pictures of Tristan's first true egg hunt. Last year he wasn't mobile, so we kind of carried him around the house to find his eggs...totally different this year. By the way, for those of you perceptive folks out there who are wondering how Tristan's boo boo cleared up so fast in time for Easter, it didn't, I edited it out of a lot of the pics!

A Case of Pregnant Brain!

"Pregnancy brain is a condition that affects expectant mothers, usually during the first and third trimesters. Sometimes known as placenta brain or baby brain drain, the condition is usually characterized by short-term memory loss or forgetfulness. Some medical experts say that pregnancy brain is a myth, but evidence shows that many women have experienced this condition." (www.wisegeek.com)

If you haven't heard of pregnant brain, or experienced it yourself, I assure you it is REAL! It all started on Saturday night...I went into the kitchen a little after 10 p.m. to wash my hands with soap and water in order to make my wedding rings slippery enough to yank off my swelling fingers. After a minute or two I got my rings off and I remember looking at my finger and thinking it looked so swollen and wondering if it was going to ever go back to normal.

Well, that's the last thing I remember thinking (about my rings at least), until it came time to put them on today. So, after I finished getting dressed today, I went to the dresser, where I always put my rings every night, and noticed they weren't there. I then remembered washing my hands the night before in the kitchen and figured I must have left them on the counter. So, out to the kitchen I went and lo and behold they weren't there. I then started to panic a little bit because I couldn't imagine where in the world they would be, and we were already running late to get over to my parents for Easter.

I stuck my hand down the garbage disposal to make sure they hadn't fallen down there and checked the kitchen counters and my dresser a hundred times...no luck. The thought then crossed my mind that I had left them on the edge of the counter and Tristan grabbed them, which I knew I would never be able to find them in that case. I continued to stress out until we finally had to leave.

We went over to my parents for Easter and I couldn't stop thinking about where in the world those rings could be. I kept wondering if they could be in the trash can somehow because there was just no other place they could be. Victor suggested that I might have left them in the papertowel I used to dry my hands and it must have sparked my memory...I suddenly remembered drying my hands and rings off in a papertowel and throwing the papertowel away. I am sure you can guess where this stroy is going now.

We got home this evening and I went "dumpster diving". I finally found my rings in a paper towel at the bottom of the trash can! What a relief, and a close call...especially since trash day is tomorrow!

Tristan's First Real "Owie"

Poor baby Tristan! On Thursday he had a run-in with the concrete steps on our back porch and the steps won! He has been obsessed with going up and down steps and stairs lately and he thought he could take them on alone. He's pretty good at going up steps by himself, but going down he usually needs an extra hand for balance.

I'd like to say he learned his lesson, but within 5 minutes of falling and banging/scraping his head head pretty hard, he was ready to go back outside and tackle the steps some more!

Children's Museum, Chuck E Cheese, oh my!

A couple of places we ventured over the last week or so...
