Hanging Out at Home

The last two weeks have been a handful, to say the least. We have pretty much been confined to the house because Tristan got RSV, I ended up with a bad sinus infection and Victor got a cold. In other words, over the past two weeks we have not had one day where at least one of us wasn't feeling 100%. I know there are a lot of parents out there that can attest to the "fun" of taking care of a sick child, but when you are sick, oh yeah, and pregnant, it's really a lot of "fun".

I guess it all began with me and my allergies, not that I caused the multiple illnesses going on in our house, but I suppose I could have prevented mine. Anyways, since the beginning of the year I have been suffering from some crazy allergies. I started waking up in the middle of the night having sneezing fits, constantly had to blow my nose, and my throat and ears itched all day long. Since I don't normally suffer from allergies, I figured I was just having a stronger than normal reaction to all the stuff in the air due to our crazy hot-cold weather pattern. When my annoying symptoms lingered on, and the weather had once again changed, I chalked my allergies up to the fact that I was pregnant and my body was just all messed from the raging hormones. This went on for about 2 weeks and all the while I didn't take any kind of allergy medicine because I figured it would be better for me to just suffer through it and not take any risks with medicine (sometimes I tend to overreact about the whole medicine thing and pregnancy).

Needless to say, I only got worse. My nose was so stopped up I couldn't breath through it, which made sleeping near impossible, so I was up half the night on most nights. Anyone notice I was keeping up with my blog pretty regularly? After 7 or 8 days of only sleeping 3 or 4 hours a night I finally broke down and called my OB to ask her what I could take. Okay, so I know there are a lot of people out there that 3 or 4 hours of sleep is all they need, but I am not one of them, especially since I am pregnant and chasing after an extremely active 1 year old all day! I took some Claritin D and a nose spray and finally got a little relief and figured that would be the end to my sleepless nights.

Naturally, around this time Tristan started to show some signs that he was coming down with a little cold, he was coughing and his nose was pretty runny, which started to wake him up at night. No sleep for me! This occurred over the weekend and I figured he was suffering from the same allergy problems I was, but when he woke up last Monday sounding like a walrus, I knew it was more than that. We headed off to the doctor, where they tested him for RSV (respiratory syncytial virus), which came back positive.

Essentially, RSV is basically a cold for most people, but can be extremely dangerous for premature babies. Luckily for us, Tristan wasn't a preemie and he's over a year old, so he was just going to have to deal with a yucky cold. The pediatrician prescribed an antibiotic, a decongestant and breathing treatments to clear him up and said to stay away from other kids for about 2 weeks. Since we have dealt with breathing treatments before, I knew I was going to be in for one heck of a week. Administering a breathing treatment three times a day to a kicking, screaming one year old, who doesn't want that mask with steam blowing out of it is part of that "fun" I mentioned earlier. Tristan would get himself so worked up during the course of the treatment that by the end his whole body was hot and sweaty and face was completely red. He is such a little fighter when it comes to doing something he doesn't want to do...so stubborn!

During this time I was feeling progressively worse. I had my 24 week check up the day after I took Tristan to the doctor, so I told my OB and she put me on a different allergy medicine. Unfortunately, it didn't do much and I was still unable to sleep. I was so exhausted and couldn't breathe and poor Tristan was feeling pretty lousy. Fortunately, Victor's Mom really helped me out by watching Tristan a couple of days during the week so I could rest and try to get some sleep. Thanks Mildred!

One more time, I called my OB and told her I think I had more than allergies. She ended up prescribing me antibiotic for a sinus infection. FINALLY, some real relief, this stuff did the trick! So, by last weekend I was starting to feel better, as was Tristan, but Victor was starting to feel worse. He ended up getting a little cold, but was able to recover with some rest over the weekend.

By Monday of this week, our whole household was feeling 100% better. But, since the pediatrician said to keep Tristan away from other kids for 2 weeks, we are pretty much confined to the house until the weekend/next week! We have definitely been getting good use out of all of Tristan's toys, but I think he is ready to get outside. The poor kid runs for the door when he hears it open and cries when he sees it close.

So anyways, that is the end of this long story...I guess I could have summed it up like this "we were all sick, stuck in the house for two weeks, absolutely no fun", but I am sure you enjoyed the long version better, right? :)

Tristan's first day of being sick - can you tell he's not feeling well?

Two days later - feeling a lot better

A little over a week later - almost 100 percent, just a little cabin fever!

Oh my gosh, when did my baby grow up so much?

I went back to look at some of my first posts on this blog and got totally wrapped up in the pictures. I can't even remember when Tristan was this small...time has flown by so fast and he has changed so much. Take a little trip down memory lane and check out the following slideshows of Tristan. I think they range from about 1 week old to about 3 months.

Showing Daddy Some Love

As I have mentioned in prior posts, our little baby is a very affectionate child, he absolutely LOVES giving kisses and hugs. All he has to hear is the word "kisses" and he comes after whomever is near him and plants a big one right on their lips. Yep, that's right, no cheek kissing for this baby, he goes straight for the lips! He is so persistent about it that he will turn your head so that he can kiss your lips if you try to avoid his sometimes slobbery lips. It really is the funniest thing because he kisses everyone.

Check out Tristan sneaking up on Victor to give him a kiss.

Picture Perfect

I just absolutely love this picture...So much so that I submitted it in Live with Regis and Kelly's Beautiful Baby Search. If they don't pick my baby, they are crazy! Can you tell I am one proud mama?

Baby Update

I went to the doctor today for my 24 week check-up. Actually, I'll be 24 weeks on Thursday, but who's counting? This was one of those uneventful visits where the doc just measures my stomach and listens to the heartbeat, so I don't really have anything too exciting to report. Parker's heartbeat was 150 and my stomach measures at 26.

Normally, you measure around the same number as the number of weeks of pregnancy, so I measured a little ahead of the game. This makes me think that Parker is going to be a porker (my attempt at a little humor)! When I was pregnant with Tristan I always measured the same as the week of pregnancy and at the end I measured a week behind. So, the fact that I measured two weeks ahead, and that I gained 5 pounds since my last visit, gives me a sneaking suspicion that Parker might be a big baby...or maybe it was just all the food that I ate during Christmas time.

My next appointment is on February 5th and that will be our last sonogram before Parker's arrival. It seems weird that we don't get another sonogram after the 28 week check-up because in the first 6 visits (including my next appointment) I will have had 4 sonograms, at least every other appointment. I really shouldn't think it is weird because I had the same schedule with Tristan, but 12 weeks seems like a long time to wait to see him again. Oh well, guess I will have to be patient, you know since patience is one of my strong characteristics, j/k!

Talk, Talk and More Talk

Check out Tristan's verbal abilities. What a little smartie! Pardon the messy house and Tristan's lack of clothes!

Ready for St. Patty's Day

Victor and I snapped this picture at Babies 'R Us the other week and it was too cute not to post. Christmas has barely passed and we're already ready for another holiday!

Just some bath pictures

I haven't posted any of those oh so wonderful bath tub pictures that every kid has and every parent likes to pull out 16 years later just to embarrass their child, so I figured I better get cracking.

Although he looks really calm in these pictures, Tristan is really a maniac in the bathtub. He spashes water with his hands and feet, plays his bathtub basketball, pulls the drain up and his favorite thing, play/spray the water when it comes out the faucet. He knows when we put in his earplugs that it is bath time and he heads for his bathroom and tries to reach over the tub. It has really become a chore trying to keep him out of the tub while filling it up. He tries to reach over and catch the water that he almost falls face first into the tub...not a care in the world as long as he can reach that water!

Little Christmas

This past weekend we celebrated "Little Christmas", also known as the "Day of the Three Kings" or Epiphany , with Victor's mom. This was the first year for Tristan to celebrate this holiday since he was so little last year.

On the night of December 5th I took Tristan over to Mildred's house so that he could complete his "preparations" to celebrate Little Christmas. As tradition goes, January 6th is the last day of the 12 days of Christmas, with the 12 days actually beginning on Christmas day. In order to celebrate the three kings arrival kids fill a shoebox full of grass for the wise men's camels and the wise men leave a gift in return. Tristan filled his shoebox full and even filled one for Parker and then put them under Mildred's Christmas tree.

On Sunday, the 6th, Victor, Tristan and I went with Mildred to a festival in downtown San Antonio to celebrate the day. There was live music, a short skit and an appearance by the three kings themselves. We had a really great time and Tristan got all sorts of attention...mostly because during the music performance he went in the middle of the floor and started dancing and continued on the entire time. What a little showoff!

Afterwards we all went to the Rainforest Cafe to eat and check out the animals (fake of course).

Christmas 2007

Since I am so late in finally posting our pics from Christmas I will keep it short and to the point! We had a wonderful Christmas and were so happy that our families were able to spend it with us. Each year keeps getting better and better. Last year was the first Christmas Victor and I were able to spend with Tristan so that made it pretty memorable, but then along came this year. Tristan is at an age where he is so energetic and entertaining that we had a great time watching him dance to music, play with his relatives and open gifts.

Each year keeps getting better and next year Tristan will be 2 years old and Parker will be here for Christmas. Ooppps...I guess I haven't mentioned yet that we decided on a name for the new baby. Well, now you know, his full name will be Parker James Kadish. I am pretty confident inour name choice, so much so that I already had his stocking monogrammed. If you look closely in some of the pictures below you might be able to catch a glimpse!
