Swim Lessons

Tristan's big organized activity this summer has been swim lessons. Of course we are doing lots of other things, like hanging out with our playgroup, going to Sea World, hitting up the Children's Museum and much more (all to be blogged about soon enough), but swim lessons has been his main structured activity for the summer.

I decided that since we live in a town that lives, eats and breathes water/swimming in the summer it would be in his best interest to learn to swim as early as possible. A friend of a friends is an instructor at the local YMCA and she offered to do private lessons for him twice a week for the entire summer. It was a pretty big committment in time and money, but I definitely think it has been well worth it. He goes every Monday and Wednesday for a one-on-one 30 minute session, and he LOVES it and he loves Ms. Shelly!!

It is completely amazing to me to see how much he has learned in just a little over a month. He can float on his tummy holding onto his kickboard using his legs to kick, put his face in the water and blow bubbles, hold his breath and go to the bottom of the shallow end of the pool to pick up a toy, jump in from the side of the pool and "swim" a couple of strokes, and so much more!!!! I love that he is so comfortable with the water and enjoys it so much...I guess that has to do with me growing up in this town and always being in a pool or at the river or Schiltterbahn when I was a kid.

He still has a good month and half of lessons left so I really think he is going be a little fish by the end of the summer...all of this and he's only 2!!!! Isn't it amazing how much they can learn at such a young age??? I posted some pictures from his first week at swim lessons and a little video from his 4th week where he goes down to the bottom of the pool to get a toy. Enjoy and I'll keep ya posted on his progress throughout the summer!

Oh, and here's how Parker keeps himself (and me) entertained inside Shelly's house while Tristan's out in the pool...the dog, Ranger!!! Parker just loves him!
